Volunteer Program Coordinator

Administration Department

Part-time Position, Thursday - Sunday 9:30 am - 5:00 pm 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Respond to volunteer inquiries in person or via email
  • Process volunteer applications and assist as needed with volunteer orientation
  • Maintain individual volunteer records
  • Assist Management with the coordination and supervision of Floor Volunteers
  • Work with Director of Administration to maintain and update volunteer forms and materials, including but not limited to, volunteer timesheets, the volunteer handbook, job descriptions, brochures, and applications
  • Assist in recruiting volunteers as needed
  • Assist with planning and coordination of annual volunteer recognition event
  • Maintain the central volunteer check-in area, including sign-up sheets, vests, bulletin board, etc.
  • Responds to guest inquiries and resolve guest issues
  • Interact with guests and groups of all sizes with enthusiasm, confidence and knowledge
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required
  • Assist with the supervision of Floor Volunteers and works closely with other MOSI, staff, event volunteers and vendors

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Previous experience working with volunteers preferred
  • Experience working with the public

Visitor Experience Associate 

Part-time Position

 

INSTITUTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Provides an excellent experience by promptly greeting and enthusiastically sharing information related to the MOSI Experience with members, guests and groups
  • Performs ticket transactions, actively sells and maintains memberships and promotes additional upsell experiences (in person and/or on telephone)
  • Answers phones, disseminating general information about MOSI programs and activities to callers and providing other assistance to callers as required
  • Operates flight simulator as scheduled to enhance the guest experience
  • Assists with troubleshooting within areas of responsibility
  • Maintains a basic knowledge of the Museum’s daily schedule in order to answer guest inquiries

MOSI VEAs MUST HAVE:

OUTREACH INSTRUCTOR

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Delivers programs that incorporate STEAM content, critical thinking, problem solving and scientific methodology.
  • Sets the tone and excitement level to optimize a positive experience for all participants.
  • Greets guests, program participants, parents and students; takes attendance and assumes responsibility for students/program participants
  • Develop new programs and activities as assigned.
  • Perform administrative duties such as filing, copying, recording/analyzing data, and organizing.
  • Replenish supplies and take inventory as assigned.
  • Prepare program materials.
  • Drive outreach vehicle to program locations.
  • Other duties as needed and assigned

OUR OUTREACH INSTRUCTORS MUST HAVE/BE:

  • Two years of experience instructing and/or working with children – required
  • Ability to prioritize, work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient with Google Drive Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Comfortable with using, teaching with, and troubleshooting various forms of technology, AV equipment, and lab instruments
  • Valid Florida driver’s license with proven safe driving record, ability to operate MOSI vehicles, including vans
  • Access to reliable vehicle for MOSI outreach programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal) with people of all ages
  • Engaging style and skill in public speaking and hands on demonstrations
  • Demonstrated strong classroom, and large group management skills
  • Demonstrated success in the delivery of quality, consistent customer service
  • Approved to work with children (Clear Level II Background Screening through Department of Children & Families required)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to traverse on uneven terrain (e.g., beach, caves, water)
  • Ability to be exposed to a variety of environmental conditions such extreme heat, humidity, insects, rain, high winds, etc.
  • Ability to verbally project to large groups
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

ROPES COURSE OPERATOR

  • Facilitating guests through course activities, enforcing safety regulations throughout their experience
  • Assisting & supervising guests as they navigate course challenges
  • Monitoring proper use of equipment and ensuring safety procedures are followed at all times

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physical ability to move about the course and climb course elements
  • Physical ability to stand on a platform and rope 50ft above the ground
  • Physical ability to tolerate working outdoors 100% of the time, in all seasons

OTHER REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have good energy, be agile, & have a positive, fun, happy customer service attitude while always ensuring the safety of our guests
  • Training and experience with ropes/challenge course programs preferred but not required for the right candidate

  • Moves furniture and equipment, delivers supplies, and runs errands
  • Keeps outside premises and grounds in an orderly condition free of litter

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read and follow instructions and handle multiple tasks routinely
  • Physically able to frequently walk, bend, stoop, squat, and crouch
  • Physically able to occasionally lift and carry objects of up to 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of use of chemicals/cleaning agents preferred

  • Present Planetarium Programs and work with telescopes for SkyWatches
  • Present Flight & Space programs as needed for badge workshops and Camp-ins

  • Assists with troubleshooting within areas of responsibility
  • Maintains a basic knowledge of the Museum’s daily schedule in order to answer guest inquiries

Creativity Instructor

OVERVIEW

 Inspire students and families to make their ideas into reality using high-tech tools, artistic skills, and a sense of imaginative fun. Facilitate kids from diverse backgrounds to become makers through project-based experiences.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Prepares and implements innovative, project-oriented, hands-on classes and experiences with a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)
  • Leads activities that give children a sense of accomplishment that comes from learning new skills and completing projects
  • Uses classroom management skills to engage children through activities

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Two years previous experience instructing and/or working with children required
  • Dependable and flexible with work schedule - must be willing to work weekends
  • Familiar with the maker movement and the intrinsic value of project-based learning
  • Proficient in using technology to create a variety of projects including computer games, robots, cardboard prototypes, videos, works of art, and science experiments
  • Must be approved to work with children (Clear Level II Background Screening through Department of Children & Families required)
