MOSI offers educators content-driven field studies that are fun, interactive learning opportunities for students. Educational programs and interactive exhibits are just some of the ways MOSI engages interest, curiosity and a sense of fun in students. Let MOSI be an extension of your classroom in meeting Common Core and the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards in STEAM.

CSI: Tampa

Capacity 30 | 45 minutes
Challenge you students to solve a simulated crime using a variety of techniques used by forensic scientists in the DEA and FBI labs. Students analyze evidence, such as hair and blood samples, and use chemistry to identify unknown substances to solve a simulated crime. Go behind the scenes of this fascinating application of science and technology.

Kinetic Art

Capacity 30 | 45 minutes
Experience the action of poetry in motion as students master the mechanics of movement by building a Rube Goldberg-style machine. Teams work together to build a complex machine using pulleys, cranks, gears, marbles, and other engineering contraptions. Combining fundamental forces with creative invention, students will experience the pride of building a wild moving chain reaction.

Robot Engineers

Capacity 30 | 45 minutes
Take on the role of a NASA engineer to build and design a Mars rover. Use imagination and problem-solving skills to guide robots across various terrains to collect samples. Discover amazing places in our solar system while exploring the field of robotics.

Investigative Health

Capacity 30 | 90 minutes
Through hands-on stations, such as suturing, tools of the trade, and engineering, expose students to important health topics and examine the heart, trachea and lungs of a mammal through dissection. Investigate how the heart and lungs work together to oxygenate and circulate blood throughout the body. Learn why interpreting an EKG graph is important for good health.

Vital Signs

Dissect a sheep’s heart, lungs, and trachea to understand how they work. Learn to measure blood pressure and listen to the sounds of your heart in this exploration of respiratory and circulatory physiology. Additional lab fee applies.

Mission: Moonbase

Virtual screens fill the windows and computers offer creative challenges as students are immersed in life in a lunar colony. Your students will work together in hands-on zones as they discover primary topics of off-world habitation.

Take a tour and discover the fascinating facts about each of the planets and their moons. Find out why Pluto was demoted, and view the planets through the lenses and sensors of satellites and the Hubble Space Telescope. Learn to identify planets in your own night sky.

Breaking it Down

Capacity 30 | 45 minutes
Have you ever wondered how the body receives energy from the food that you eat? Follow your food’s fantastic voyage through the digestive process and discover just how important that peanut butter and jelly sandwich really is! From the enzymes in saliva to the powerful acid found
in your stomach, learn how your body breaks down food and obtains nutrients through hands-on experimentation and simulation. Young learners will have fun getting their hands dirty as they mix, churn, and absorb different materials just as their bodies would.

Take matters into your own hands and explore the world around you through chemistry! Mix, smash, and stir ingredients to create dazzling, fizzing, and bubbling effects. Flash! Clap! Bang! Thunderstorms are an everyday occurrence in Florida but do you wonder how they form? In this interactive stage show, students will investigate how the basic ingredients of weather affect air pressure, precipitation, and convection currents to understand daily weather
patterns as well as natural disasters.

Can’t come out at night? Let MOSI bring the night sky to you! MOSI’s portable Star Lab planetarium can re-create the nighttime sky complete with stars and galaxies. Discover the science of the stars and the stories behind them. Learn how to interpret the night sky and what’s
visible that evening.

Telescopes to Go

Have an out-of-this-world field trip right at your school. Explore the wonders of the universe and the nighttime sky through telescopes. Have record attendance at your next PTO or PTA event, or school family night. Imagine a program that excites your parents as much as your students. MOSI
astronomers will deliver, set up, and operate telescopes for a special SkyWatch at YOUR location.

Stay up late on a school night and join in the adventure as MOSI comes alive with hands-on learning, and a night to remember for your entire group. MOSI offers overnight camp-ins year-round for groups in search of in-depth exploration and learning. Sleep among your favorite exhibits and experience the thrill of taking over MOSI at night!

Radical Reactions

We make chemistry fun at MOSI! Discover the elements of science in this ooey, gooey, slippery, slimy overnight experience. Students will explore chemical reactions, create polymers, and see an explosive show they will remember for a lifetime. Includes an Explosive Science Demonstration Show.


Mission: Moonbase

Travel to the Moon on a space transport and help operate a lunar colony in MOSI’s interactive, immersive experience, Mission: Moonbase! Explore the stars, planets, and our Moon; design and engineer robots that accomplish tasks; and train for the rigors of space travel in this out of this world overnight experience! Includes telescope viewing (weather permitting) and a Stargazing Show in The Saunders Planetarium.


STEAM Powered Inventions

Welcome to the future! What out-of-the-box innovations will your junior inventors create with the right tools, today’s technology, and their endless imaginations? Students will explore invention, innovation, and technology in groups and then present their creations to their peers. Whether your students excel in science, technology, engineering, arts, or mathematics, there is something for everyone in this interdisciplinary, STEAM-based camp-in!


A camp-in is a 16 hour event and includes: 3-4 hours of hands-on workshops aligned to the Sunshine State Standards, sleeping among MOSI exhibit galleries, light evening snack and breakfast in the morning, and admission to MOSI on the morning your camp-in ends.


Chaperone Requirements for Onsite Programs

1 adult for every 10 students

Adults accompanying the group beyond the required number of chaperones pay adult rate.
