MOSI TECH SUMMER SCIENCE INSTRUCTORS

Looking for a fun, exciting summer? MOSI is looking for Tech instructors to inspire campers between 1 to 11 weeks of camp from May 301th  – August 9, 2017.   As a Tech Instructor at MOSI, your job is to challenge, empower, and inspire campers in a variety of topics within the fields of technology. Apply your specialized skill set to create a fun and engaging learning environment for campers to become digital creators and hands-on makers. You can teach 1, or more, subjects such as - Minecraft, robotics, gaming, coding, designing 3D models, tinkering with electronics, or fabricating prototypes using 3D printers. Those are just a few of the unique activities at MOSI led by our Technology and Engineering Instructors. Pass on the passion of STEAM to campers and watch their curiosity catch fire.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and implement innovative, project oriented, and hands-on activities during camp.
  • Develop a lesson plan for each scheduled week of camp.
  • Set a positive tone and demonstrate a professional attitude to deliver a quality summer camp experience for all participants.
  • Greet parents and campers, take attendance, and be responsible for children throughout the week.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficiency in one or more of technology subjects.
  • Experience instructing and/or working with children preferred.
  • Dependable and flexible with work schedule and duties.
  • Certified Florida Teaching Credential a plus but not required.
  • Must be able to get a Clear Level II background screening through Department of Children & Families (MOSI pays for this if you do not have it already).

COMPENSATION:

  • Hours and rates of pay include preparation time.
  • Instructors will be paid $550/week.

SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP INSTRUCTOR

Background: Built originally in 1982 and expanded in 1995, the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) mission is to “Make Science Real” to public guests as well as school and community groups by providing hands-on, inquiry-based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) experiences. MOSI has more than 300,000 square feet of interactive exhibits including Florida’s only IMAX Dome Theater and is the largest science center in the southeastern United States. Each year MOSI serves nearly one million guests who are ethnically diverse including children, families, students, teachers, community groups and others.

MOSI’s Summer Science Camps’ goal is to have fun while inspiring and enhancing curious minds. Creativity, imagination, and hands-on learning are keys to MOSI’s summer science camps. Summer Science Camp instructors are experienced, energetic and creative in developing educational experiences for children ages 2 – high school. MOSI’s summer camps offer hundreds of weekly camps in a variety of areas from chemistry to robotics to marine biology. Our camps take place in classroom, laboratory, and outdoor settings. Function: Develop and deliver curriculum for our campers to be learning, making, tinkering and exploring STEAM content through a hands-on approach.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Work collaboratively with MOSI staff and outside experts to create and deliver camp programming.
  • Integrate science, math, engineering, art, and/or technology into camps.
  • Create age-appropriate curriculum for camp that incorporate critical thinking, problem solving and scientific methodology.
  • Participate in mandatory instructor training and orientation
  • Greet parents and students in a friendly and energetic manner.
  • Commitment to the philosophy and mission of MOSI

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; Two-year degree or 5 years relevant experience may be substituted
  • Certified Florida Teaching Credential a plus
  • Two years experience instructing children and developing lesson plans required
  • Science andor technology background or interest
  • Dependable and flexible with work schedule and duties
  • Experience serving diverse audiences of children
  • Valid Florida Drivers license required for certain classes
  • First Aid andor CPR certification a plus
  • Must be approved to work with children (clear Level II Background Screening through Department of Children & Families required)

DATES, HOURS, AND LOCATIONS:

  • Every week is a new week with different camps, different students, and different teachers.
  • Weekly programs from May 30 – August 9, 2017 4-years-old - completed Kindergarten: 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 and/or 12:30 - 4:15 p.m.
  • Completed 1st Grade – 8th Grade Full-Day Camps: 8:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.
  • Completed 4th Grade – Completed 8h Grade Travel Camps: 8:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.
  • Residential Camps – Ages 11 – 17 years: Monday, 8:30 a.m. through Friday, 5:30 p.m.

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE:

  • Work the majority of the summer or just a few weeks. (You must commit to the entire week)
  • Some instructors work half-day weeks, teaching either a morning or afternoon camp.

COMPENSATION:

  • Hours and rates of pay include preparation time.
  • Instructors will be paid $137/week when teaching a 2 and 3-year-old camp.
  • Instructors will be paid $228/week when teaching a half-day camp.
  • Instructors will be paid $455/week when teaching a full-day camp.

TEACHER ASSISTANTS

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise extended care in the morning, afternoon and at lunchtime and lead games and activities.
    Assist with overall camp operations and instructors with hands-on science and technology activities.
    Have a friendly, can-do attitude!

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Monday through Friday weekday availability throughout summer
    Mature, dependable and flexible with duties and schedule
    Experience in working with children; teaching experience required
    Science and technology background or interest
    First Aid, CPR and Lifeguard training preferred
    Must be approved to work with children (Clear Level II Background Screening through Department of Children & Families required)
