Give Change to Make Change Campaign
Give Change to Make Change 2016 Recap
Kids empty piggy banks, raising $4,000 to help other kids in one-of-a-kind Children’s Gala at MOSI
Special MOSI fundraiser teaches kids the importance of giving back to others.
Who needs a fancy grown-up fundraising gala with gowns and glamor? More than 350 kids and parents came to MOSI on Sunday, May 1, 2016 for a different kind of gala. They ate dessert first and showed off the piggy banks they decorated to raise money and help other kids just like them.
The MOSI Children’s Gala presented by PNC Bank is part of MOSI’s Give Change to Make Change campaign. PNC Bank provided thousands of piggy banks that kids adopted, decorated, and named –- including Albert Ein-swine and Piggy deGrasse Tyson.
For weeks, the kids “fed” their banks with tasty green and silver donations, then the packed piggy banks became their tickets to the Children’s Gala at the Museum of Science & Industry.
All of the proceeds from the piggy banks go toward providing scholarships for under-served kids to attend MOSI’s Science Camps. This year’s total reached $4,007.06.
Former MOSI President and CEO, Molly Demeulenaere, created the unique fundraising campaign, which is now in its third year.
“This will help so many sharp, deserving kids have a life-changing experience at MOSI’s Science Camps,” Demeulenaere said. “But this also really impacts the kids who are raising the money to support this cause. Inspiring youth philanthropy is so vital to the future of our community.”
Donors supplied all of the food and refreshments for the Children’s Gala presented by PNC Bank. Instead of champagne, kids sipped milk provided by Florida Dairy Farmers.
High-tech prizes donated by the USF Computer Store went to the best-dressed boy and girl, the best-dressed pig, and the pig with the highest fundraising total.
