Tools of Space Exploration

Get up-close with examples of vehicles and tools that have carried humans into the unknown of space.

In MOSI’s Kids In Charge! building, you can get up-close with examples of vehicles and tools that have helped humans explore the unknown frontier of space.

Near Imagination Playground, you’ll see a 4/5 scale mock-up of the Eagle lunar lander that took Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the surface of the Moon on July 20, 1969.

Outside The Saunders Planetarium, touch a full-size replica of the heat shield that kept America’s first astronaut, Alan Shepard, alive during his fiery return to Earth in his Mercury spacecraft.

Then step into the planetarium’s entry corridor and discover more — examine models of rockets used by NASA and the United States Air Force to launch missions of exploration through the years.

Finally, come face-to-face with a full-size mock-up of a NASA space suit.
