FACILITY TRADES MECHANIC
Facilities Department
Full-Time Position with Benefits
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Monitors, troubleshoots and performs necessary repairs on all electrical systems and their components.
• Performs craft and carpentry installations and repairs throughout the facility and other miscellaneous building maintenance tasks, such as masonry, painting, lighting, etc.
• Performs plumbing installations and repairs throughout the facility.
• Assists Facility Engineer with regulatory compliance, including inspections and thorough record keeping.
• Performs various assigned preventative maintenance tasks regularly.
• Maintains inventory of maintenance parts, materials, and supplies, including organizing, stocking, etc. for all Facilities maintenance tasks, repairs, and assignments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma
• Trade School Diploma or Certification in commercial/industrial electrical trade.
• Three to five years experience required in the commercial/ industrial electrical trade.
• Three years experience preferred in two or more of the following trades- plumbing, mechanical, carpentry and masonry.
• Valid Florida Driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Standing for 2 to 4 hour shifts.
• Frequent walking, standing, bending, squatting, stooping, and crouching.
• Occasional kneeling, lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent climbing of stairs, ladders, scaffolding, etc.

The Job:
• We are looking for outgoing, enthusiastic and inquisitive individuals to deliver entertaining programming and interact daily with our guests and members.
• Our MOSI InterActors are instrumental in providing a high-quality experience in a fun and inviting atmosphere; they are the key to making science come to life for visiting school groups, general public and MOSI members through programs, science demonstrations and informal gallery conversations.

• Perform science demonstrations and theatre programs

HEALTH PROGRAMS EDUCATOR

Weekend & Evening Work Required
We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative individual, who will help make science come to life in our exhibit areas
by creating and delivering entertaining health-related programming for our guests and members.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conceive, develop and implement interactive health programs (gallery, theater, classroom, outreach)
• Develop and maintain written training manuals for health exhibit area
• Serve on enhancement teams for exhibit area
• Make the schedule, train, and monitor part-time InterActor staff
• Work with Youth Programs Coordinator to train, schedule and monitor Yes! Team staff
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• BA or BS Degree in science, health, education, or related field
• Previous experience working with youth required
• Performance theater experience and health program development experience preferred
• Museum or science center experience preferred
• Experience in informal education a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to project voice to large groups
• Ability to present programs in exhibit galleries for extended periods
• Ability to present and/or discuss dissection and realistic medically graphic procedures and conditions.
CONSERVATION COORDINATOR
Facilities Department
Full Time Position with Benefits
This position is responsible for the protection and conservation of MOSI’s Back Woods as a hands-on coordinator, educator and caretaker for the 25-acre site on MOSI’s campus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with VP of Facilities to conduct an extensive planning and design phase to develop an environmentally sound master plan for the restoration and conservation of the Back Woods area.
• Develop and maintain appropriate protocols, policies and procedures for land and living systems.
• Alleviate insults to the environment by removing exotic species, debris from detention ponds and accumulated trash, using bush-hogs and other manual and machine devices, and prescribed burns as needed.
• Enhance the environment by adding native wetland and upland species as needed.
• Develop a comprehensive Back Woods maintenance schedule based on the approved master plan, policies and procedures.
• Develop easy access for the general public to safely utilize the Back Wood area.
• Work with Exhibits Department to create and implement interpretive signage and exhibits.
• Work with Education Department to develop and implement programs that promote environmental stewardship and/or pollution prevention.
• Acts as the liaison with local and governmental entities to ensure regulatory compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor degree in horticulture, ecology, biology or related field preferred; Associate degree acceptable.
• Previous experience working with exotic plant control and landscaping; extensive experience may substitute educational requirements.
• Hold current certification for application of herbicides and pesticides.
• Supervisory experience and budget management experience preferred.
• Knowledgeable in the management of natural and disturbed habitats, developed and landscaped property.
• Knowledgeable in forestry management techniques applicable to Florida.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to lift 50 lbs., frequent kneeling and bending
• Ability to tolerate working outdoors in all seasons and perform physical work commensurate to the scope of grounds
COORDINATOR of YOUTH, ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for the daily operation of MOSI’s summer camp programs.
• Assist Director of Education with scheduling of Summer Camp staff and Volunteers.
• Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, and education purchases; monitor budget expenditures and work with supervisor to contain costs.
• Plan, implement and present/instruct programs; develop and coordinate use of resources used in program delivery
• Conceptualize and initiate new programs or activities that respond to audience demand and organizational need.
• Assist in creating publications and in the promotion of program offerings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in education or science (chemistry preferred) from an accredited college or university; relevant experience may be substituted
• Previous experience in science center or similar informal education institution, developing and implementing programs, and/or operating a summer camp
• Previous experience teaching / working with children, instructing youth of all ages
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects (multi-task)and remain detail-oriented
• Ability to portray a positive, upbeat attitude and remain level-headed under pressure
• Demonstrated success in the delivery of quality, consistent customer service
• Engaging style and skill in public speaking; ability to engage students on a weekly basis
• Valid Florida driver’s license with proven safe driving record, ability to operate large vehicles including electric cars and vans

EARLY CHILDHOOD INSTRUCTOR
There is no better way to spend the summer than doing lots of hands-on science and fun!
Facilitate a variety of preschool programs featuring butterflies, dinosaurs, building, outer space, and much more. Utilize your creativity, humor, energy, and desire to work with children and adults to create an experience full of wonder and amazement. MOSI is looking for staff that possesses a positive attitude, experience working with preschoolers along with adults, a fascination of the sciences, and love for laughter.
MOSI offers:
• Weekly camps beginning June 9 through August 29 (number of weeks flexible)
• Half-day camp experiences – morning and/or afternoon
• Ages 2 years through Kindergarten
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare and implement innovative, fun, hands-on curriculum for assigned camps
• Prepare lists of supplies and obtain supplies prior to each class, keeping within set budget
• Greet parents and students, take attendance, and be responsible for students in assigned classes
• Present planned curriculum and activities pertaining to assigned classes
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred; Two-year degree or 5 years relevant experience may be substituted

TECHNOLOGY & MEDIA INSTRUCTOR
Inspire kids and teens to create exciting multimedia and technology projects. Apply your technical savvy, imagination, and ability to foster an enthusiastic environment where children and teens can design Web pages, animate in 3D, program a computer game, or build LEGO inventions. These are just a few examples of what we do in our exciting project-oriented programs at MOSI.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare and implement innovative, hands-on classes and camps.
• Greet parents and students, take attendance, and be responsible for students.
• Present planned activities pertaining to assigned classes in electronic form.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Proficient in creating animation, video, music, or computer projects like computer games.
• Certified Florida Teaching Credential a plus but not required.
• Two years experience instructing and/or working with children required.
• Skilled in using multimedia and/or programming applications.

LIFEGUARDS
MOSI needs certified Lifeguards for our Summer Travel Camps!

• Responsible for the safety of the students at all water activities

TEACHER ASSISTANTS
Feel the spirit of summer at MOSI! Get out, get going and have fun in the sun while working at MOSI’s Summer Science Camp!
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervise morning and afternoon extended care and at lunchtime, as well as lead games and activities.
• Assist with overall camp operations.
• Assist instructors with hands-on science & technology activities.
