Scout Programs at MOSI

Enrich your scouting experience at MOSI through our exciting hands-on science and technology workshops and overnight fun during our camp-in events.

 Scout Workshops are a fun and exciting way to complement your badges and pins. Fees include an instructor-led workshop with all materials and MOSI admission for the entire group. Special discounts for group IMAX shows and lunches are available. Sign up for one of our scheduled programs or arrange for a private workshop or camp-in by calling 813-987-6000.

MOSI has exciting, technology and science-packed experiences for girls with a variety of interests. Through hands-on, challenging and fun activities, MOSI helps Girl Scouts working on Badges and Journeys as well as provide new and exciting opportunities to explore careers and the sciences found in everyday life. Participants are welcome to explore MOSI’s exhibits before or after programs.

Registration closes two-weeks prior to workshop date.

From landscapes to portraits and everything in between- learn how to take better photos

Spend time in MOSI’s Bioworks Garden then dig your hands into the soil as you plant

Learn how to explore around the internet, but do so with some digital flare and positive vibes. This workshop is all about being a smart web explorer and make positive choices as you journey through the digital world.

 

Living Healthy

Badge/journey requirements addressed: Eating for Beauty

Saturday, February 21, from 1:00pm – 4:00pm

Program Fee: $18 per scout, 1 adult free per 10 scouts

Ever wonder how certain foods affect your mood, your attitude, or even how you sleep? In this workshop you’ll touch on all of those questions and more as you learn how eating healthy really leads to a healthier lifestyle overall.

 Cupcake Wars Camp-In

 Levels: Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes

Badge/Journey: Home Scientist

Saturday, January 24 – 25, from 5:00pm – 11:00am

Program Fee: $35 per scout, $24 per adult, 1 adult free per 10 scouts

Spend the evening exploring the science, technology, engineering, art and math behind baking and then compete in a S.T.E.A.M. inspired Cupcake Wars’ style competition as a team! Hone your math skills as you measure and mix ingredients, learn about physical and chemical changes as you bake cupcakes, explore the states of matter as you whip up yummy frosting, and then put your creative engineering and artistic skills to the test as you design a winning cupcake display! The camp-in includes the Cupcake Wars workshop, pizza dinner, cereal breakfast, an IMAX film and exhibit exploration time.

 

 Registration for public scout programs closes two-weeks prior to camp-in date. 

 

Private Scout Programs:

Reserve a Private Scout Workshop or Private Scout Camp-In if you cannot make one of the scheduled dates or if you are interested in a specific topic and program for your Scout group. The minimum required for a private workshop is 15 scouts. The minimum required for a private Camp-In is 40 scouts.

 

Private Scout Camp-Ins:

Reserve a Private Scout Camp-In if you cannot make one of the scheduled dates or you are interested in a specific topic for your Scout group. The minimum required attendance for this type of Camp-In is 40 Scouts.  

 

 Registration Information:
Call 1-800-995-6674 to make reservations. Scout groups must register with a minimum of 40 Scouts at least one month prior to the Camp-In. We encourage partnering with other groups to fill a Camp-In. A single payment for the group can be made by credit card at the time of registration or in person by check at MOSI. If you must cancel the reservation, you need to do so at least 20 business days prior to the Camp-In to receive a refund. A $50 cancellation fee will be deducted from your refund. 

 

 

 Boy Scout Programs

Boy Scouts develop new interests and earn badges through MOSI’s programs and badge workshops in hands-on science and technology explorations in the science lab, outdoors in our nature preserve or in our technology centers. Participants are welcome to explore MOSI’s exhibits before or after programs.

Scouts are responsible for bringing Blue Cards to Merit Badge workshops. MOSI does not provide Blue Cards.

Workbooks for Merit Badge workshops are available under the description of the workshop. Items that are required to be completed prior to the workshop are circled in the workbook and scouts are responsible for bringing a copy of the workbook to the workshop. Blue Cards will only be signed if all required items are completed in the workbook.

Nova and Supernova Workshops

 

 

New STEM Boy Scout workshops available at MOSI! MOSI is proud to offer STEM workshops required for the Nova and Supernova Awards for Cub Scouts, Webelos, and Boy Scouts. Workshops will engage scouts in hands-on activities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Please check the Boy Scouts of America website to determine which workshops are required to earn each award or contact our Groups and Outreach Manager for more information.

Game Design Merit Badge

Take your love for game-playing and delve into the world of game design, bend the rules to existing games and create new ones!

Communication Merit Badge

Sunday, November 9, from 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Program Fee: $18 per scout, 1 adult free per 10 scouts

In a busy world that's always talking, learn how to communicate with this badge. Work on writing small speeches, telling stories, and listening.

Prerequisites: 5, 8

 

Art Merit Badge

Saturday, November 22, from 1:00pm – 4:00pm

Program Fee: $18 per scout, 1 adult free per 10 scouts

Art and technology meet in this workshop as you use computer art programs to tell a story with pictures, design a logo, and paint a still life.

Prerequisites: none

 

Nuclear Science Merit Badge

Saturday, December 6, from 1:00pm – 4:00pm

Program Fee: $18 per scout, 1 adult free per 10 scouts

Explore how nuclear reactors works, how we can use energy created through nuclear science, and learn all about isotopes and atomic interactions!

Friday, November 14-15, from 5:00pm – 11:00am

Ever want to just let your creativity flow? Spend an evening at MOSI creating your own inventions, exploring how to build safe houses, and cleaning up after natural disasters! The camp-in includes the inventing workshop, pizza dinner, cereal breakfast, an IMAX film and exhibit exploration time.

Mission Moonbase Camp-In

Levels: Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts

Badges: Astronomy Belt Loop and Pin, Astronomy Merit Badge

Saturday, February 21-22, from 5:00pm – 11:00am

Program Fees: $35 per scout, $24 per adult, 1 adult free per 10 scouts

Spend a fun filled evening at MOSI exploring the cosmos! Gaze into the night sky with telescopes in the SciencePark, learn the stories behind the constellations in the Planetarium, and explore the moon using the Mission:Moonbase exhibit! The camp-in includes the astronomy workshop, pizza dinner, cereal breakfast, an IMAX film and exhibit exploration time.

 

Pre-Requisites: 1, 5, 6, 9
