SCOUT BADGE PROGRAMS

Are you a scout troop leader in Hillsborough, Pasco or surrounding Florida counties looking for badge workshop programs to complement your badges, Daisy Petals and Cub Scout and Webelos Belt Loop and Pins? MOSI  has exciting, technology and science-packed badge workshops for scouts of all ages with a variety of interests. Offer your troop unique scouting experiences with MOSI badge workshops and overnight fun during our skill-building scout camp-in events.

 

Scout Badge Workshops fees include a certified instructor-led program with all the materials and MOSI admission. Additional scout discounts available for troops that would like to add a Florida Hospital IMAX Dome Theatre movie or group lunch to complete a fun-filled badge workshop day.

Explore all the different ways you can paint and set your inner artist free! Paint a still life with thick impasto paints like Van Gogh; splatter and drip paint on a canvas like Pollock; create a giant mural like Rivera; and more.

Make a healthy snack and then hit the trail in MOSI’s Back Woods Forest Preserve! Learn to follow trail signs, play nature games, and search for clues that animals leave along the trail.

Learn the ins and outs of technology used everyday for fun and entertainment. Discover the science behind sound waves, special effects used in blockbuster movies, and the fearless engineering and physics that go into roller coaster designs.

Spend time in MOSI’s BioworksGarden then dig your hands into the soil as you plant your own mini garden and experiment with seeds, soil and sunlight.

Trash Fashion Camp-In

Levels: Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes      
Badge/Journey: Household Elf, Science of Style Saturday, Mar. 14-15, from 6:30pm – 11:00am      
Program Fee: $40 per scout, $24 per adult
Turn trash to couture fashion by reducing, reusing and recycling! Transform plastic bags into tutus, and newspapers into dresses as you upcycle your way into the high fashion runway. Strut your stuff on the MOSI runway the next morning! Program includes fun hands-on S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art & design, and math) activities, a pizza dinner, a cereal breakfast, and IMAX film, parking, and admission to museum exhibits. 

 

Tech Savvy Camp-In

 MOSI is proud to offer STEM workshops required for the Nova and Supernova Awards for Cub Scouts, Webelos, and Boy Scouts. Workshops will engage scouts in hands-on activities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. A Caving We Will Go

Geology Belt Loop and Pin
Saturday,  April 18, from 10:00am – 2:00pm
Program Fee: $24 per scout, $24 per adult
Participants must be at least 8 years of age.
Program takes place off-site. Transportation is not provided. Journey to an underground world where water has carved out caverns with unique textures and patterns. Search for wondrous creatures that inhabit these dark and wet chambers while climbing and crawling your way around stalactites and stalagmites. Spelunk your way to fun as you learn about geology using Florida's cave system!

Learn all about herpetology with this badge as you delve into explaining the difference between reptiles and amphibians and explore more about these animals from their habitats, biology, and superstitions related to them!
 

 

Electricity Merit Badge

Spark your imagination as you build an electromagnet, build circuits that operate lights and motors, and learn about electricity in your home.
 

 

Engineering Merit Badge

Sunday, Feb. 22, from 1:00pm – 5:00pm
Program Fee: $24 per scouts, $12 per adult 
Do you like solving puzzles and coming up with ingenious solutions? Well engineering might be just for you! Boy Scouts will be introduced to the skills used by engineering professionals by participating in engineering challenges that require precise planning, design, and construction to accomplish.

Mission Moonbase Camp-In 

Levels: Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts Badges: Astronomy Belt Loop and Pin, Astronomy Merit Badge                                             Saturday, Feb. 21-22, from 5:00pm – 11:00am
Program Fees: $35 per scout, $24 per adult
Spend a fun filled evening at MOSI exploring the cosmos! Gaze into the night sky with telescopes in the Science Park, learn the stories behind the constellations in the Planetarium, and explore the moon using the Mission:Moonbase exhibit! The camp-in includes the astronomy workshop, pizza dinner, cereal breakfast, an IMAX film and exhibit exploration time.
 


 

Private Scout Programs:

Reserve a Private Scout Badge Workshop if you cannot make one of the scheduled dates or if you are interested in a specific topic and program for your Scout group. The minimum required for a private workshop is 15 scouts.

 

Private Scout Camp-Ins:

Reserve a Private Scout Camp-In if you cannot make one of the schedule d dates or you are interested in a specific topic for your Scout group. The minimum fees apply.

 

Camp-in Registration Information:

Call 1-800-995-6674 to make reservations. Scout groups must register with a minimum of 40 Scouts at least one month prior to the Camp-In. We encourage partnering with other groups to fill a Camp-In. A single payment for the group can be made by credit card at the time of registration or in person by check at MOSI. If you must cancel the reservation, you need to do so at least 20 business days prior to the Camp-In to receive a refund. A $50 cancellation fee will be deducted from your refund.
