Special Events Department
Full-Time Position with Benefits
This special event planning position works directly with the Special Events Manager.
Major responsibilities include planning and coordination of special events.
Conducts site visits for clients and vendors.
Coordinates, communicates, and distributes event information to other museum departments.
Performs administrative tasks such as updating and maintaining event files and all pertinent correspondence in a timely manner.
Creates Banquet Event Order per event meticulously detailing all information from Client.
Plans, organizes, prioritizes and coordinates work assignments from Special Events Manager and delegates appropriate assignments to Special Events Assistant.
Coordinates event needs with MOSI staff and/or outside vendors.
Partners with Special Events Manager to monitor deadlines and follow-ups for each client, as well as guarantees on meal and guest counts.
Tracks monthly beverage inventory.
Attends weekly interdepartmental meeting to confirm venue support in carrying out event logistics for the following week.
Works closely with Special Events Manager and Contract Chef in menu development.
Coordinates event execution to include event setup, delegation of staff, being attentive to client needs, ensuring timeline of program and food service are met, as well as breakdown according to MOSI opening standards.
Ensures accurate and timely collection of deposits and payments.
Maintains Invoice Binder for Special Events Manager.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Minimum of one year experience in event planning required; two years preferred
Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and coordinate work assignments
Required knowledge of Windows, Excel, Word and Adobe Acrobat
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Creative self-starter, enthusiastic, personable, experienced working with volunteers
Strong leadership skills
Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays
Ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic, customer service environment
Must be able to react quickly in high stress situations
Physically able to lift, carry and/or push supplies, tables and chairs up to 50 lbs.
Physically able to bend, kneel and reach to assist in event set-up as needed

Part Time Positions
Presenting science programs and classes, on and off site, including environmental, space, health, chemistry, and physics
Driving and teaching on the MOSI in Motion Bus
Instructing youth of all ages during overnight camp ins
Teaching outreach programs and scout workshops
Setting up and breaking down of equipment at each venue
Ability to interact with groups of all sizes with enthusiasm, confidence and knowledge
Experience working with children and as a team member
Ability to meet challenges with creativity and flexibility
Science, mathematics, and/or education background preferred
Fluent in Spanish a plus
Current CPR / First Aid certification a plus
Must be 21 years of age or older due to driving requirement
Valid Florida Drivers License with clean driving record required
Weekday, weekend, and overnight availability required
MEMBERSHIP SALES ASSOCIATE
Guest Experience Department
Greet guests and provide information on MOSI ticketing options and benefits of membership;
Exceed or meet sales goals while demonstrating a solid customer focus;
Develop a strong product knowledge as well as customer knowledge;
Must have passion to turn prospects into members with persistent determination;
Provide inputs, creative solutions, and ideas to the membership team;
Maintain accurate customer database for reporting, mailings, and marketing memberships;
Perform daily data-entry and cash handling tasks;
Assist Membership Supervisor with member relations issues and supports member promotions and events;
Assist Membership Supervisor with member card fulfillment tasks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES INCLUDE:
Exceptional skills of customer service; outgoing, friendly, enthusiastic attitude
Must have excellent writing and verbal skills;
Proactive and self-controlled work ethic; self-starter; able to achieve sales quotas
Good organization and excellent time management skills; must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple-priorities.
High School diploma or GED preferred
Previous customer service experience required; prior sales experience preferred
Proficient level of computer skills of MSWord, Excel, and Vista systems preferred
SPECIAL WORK REQUIREMENTS:
MOSI is open 365 days a year. Employee will be required to work some holidays, evenings, and or weekends.
Standing for 5 to 8 hour shifts
Frequent bending turning, kneeling and stooping
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
Repetitive motion required for computer entry.
Receive phone calls for group and individual reservations; take reservations and enter into MOSI ticketing system; respond to questions regarding MOSI programs.
Perform follow-up tasks required for MOSI programs, e.g., produce and mail confirmation with appropriate materials, generate program roster, etc.
Receive phone calls to purchase MOSI memberships and meet monthly Membership sales goals; enter membership data into MOSI ticketing System; perform data entry for membership applications received by mail.
Respond to requests (telephone) for general information about MOSI and its programs, facilities and operations.
Respond to walk-in requests for groups and individuals reservations; take reservations and enter into MOSI ticketing system; respond to questions regarding MOSI programs.

Prepare and implement innovative, project-oriented, hands-on classes and camps.
Set the tone and excitement level to optimize a positive summer camp experience for all participants.
Greet parents and students, take attendance, and be responsible for students.
Present planned activities pertaining to assigned classes in electronic form.
Proficient in creating animation, robotics, video production, music production or computer projects like computer games.
Certified Florida Teaching Credential a plus but not required.
Two years experience instructing and/or working with children required.
Skilled in using multimedia and/or programming applications.
Dependable and flexible with work schedule and duties.
Must be approved to work with children (Clear Level II Background Screening through Department of Children & Families required).
Responsible for driving a bus and monitoring of Guests/Program Participants on board.
Inspects bus thoroughly before starting the run to detect any mechanical or other malfunction, which would prevent the safe delivery of Guests and/or Program Participants.
Follows exact schedule making stops and pick up of Guests/Program Participants at locations based on schedule provided.
Observes all state, city and local laws and regulations.
Supervise the seating of Guests/Program Participants to equalize weight distribution.
Assists chaperones in resolving disciplinary problems and prepares proper reports for the Vice President of Education on more difficult problems.
Instructs Guests/Program Participants on the proper methods to board and depart from the bus and sees that these instructions are carefully observed.
Possesses thorough knowledge of bus operation; safety and safety equipment, and first aid procedures.
Ability to communicate in a positive manner with Guests/Program Participants.
Candidates must be 21 years of age or older
High School Diploma or GED preferred; completion of the tenth school grade required
Two years of successful bus driving experience required
Possession of a valid Florida Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger Endorsement required (S)
Applicants should be familiar with the main roadways in the county.
Applicants who have been found guilty of a DUI or who have tested positive for a controlled substance will be disqualified
Must be approved to work with children (Clear Level II Background Screening through Department of Children & Families required)
Qualified candidates must be able to meet and complete OTETA (Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act) and DOT (Department of Transportation) testing
