SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP INSTRUCTOR

Our camp Instructors develop and deliver curriculum for our campers to be learning, making, tinkering and exploring STEAM content through a hands-on approach. 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Work collaboratively with MOSI staff and outside experts to create and deliver camp programming. 

Integrate science, math, engineering and/or technology into camps. 

Create age-appropriate curriculum for camp that incorporate critical thinking, problem solving and scientific methodology.

Participate in instructor training and orientation

Greet parents and students in a friendly and energetic manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree preferred; Two-year degree or 5 years relevant experience may be substituted

Certified Florida Teaching Credential a plus

Two year’s experience instructing children and developing lesson plans required

Science and\or technology background or interest

Experience serving diverse audiences of children

Valid Florida Driver’s license required for certain classes

Dates, Hours, and Locations:

Every week is a new week with different camps, different students, and different teachers.

Weekly programs from Monday, June 8 - Friday, August 21, 2015.

2 and 3 Year Old Camps: M-TH 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

4-years-old - completed Kindergarten: 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 and/or 12:30 - 4:15 p.m.

Completed 1st Grade - age 17 Full-Day Camps: 8:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.

Completed 4th Grade – Completed 9h Grade Travel Camps: 8:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.

Residential Camps – Ages 11 – 17 years: Monday, 8:30 a.m. through Friday, 5:30 p.m.

Flexible Schedule:

Work the majority of the summer or just a few weeks.

Some instructors work half-day weeks, teaching either a morning or afternoon camp.

Compensation:

Hours and rates of pay include preparation time.

Instructors will be paid $137/week when teaching a 2 and 3-year-old camp.

Instructors will be paid $228/week when teaching a half-day camp.

Instructors will be paid $455/week when teaching a full-day camp.

SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP ENGINEERING/FABRICATION INSTRUCTOR

Inspire students to engineer new ideas and to create with high-tech tools.

Apply your building and engineering skills to create fun and rewarding challenges that motivate and inspire students. Do you like to design 3D models, piece together robots, or use fabrication technologies such as 3D printing and laser cutting to make prototypes? RESERVATIONS SUPERVISOR

Guest Experience Team / Reservations Department

Full-Time Position with Benefits

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Assists Director of Guest Services with hiring, training, supervision, coaching and counseling of reservation department staff.

Trains new and existing staff on MOSI reservation ticketing system program and procedures.

Responds to guest questions / concerns; independently resolve guest problems; make exceptions to standard operating procedures when required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Update, design, trouble shoot and repair malfunctioning digital game systems as needed including computer-based systems and audio-visual systems.

Routine digitally based maintenance for all related exhibits.

Report to Exhibits Production Manager on status of exhibits and proper action to be taken.

Design, spec components, and modify peripheral software components and systems for new and existing exhibits.

Work closely with Exhibit’s design, production, and maintenance team on design modifications, maintenance, and repair of exhibits.

Work with the Exhibits Team during installation and striking of temporary exhibitions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Experience in game based simulation and/or interactive exhibit maintenance, programming, and design

Experience and understanding of testing and prototyping game based simulation or interactive exhibitory

Experience in backing up computer files, media files, and software

ROPES COURSE MANAGER

Guest Experience Team / Ropes Course

Full-time Position with Benefits

The primary goal of this position is to provide a safe, largely team-oriented, ropes course adventure challenge program through which guests of all ages can have fun, make friends, and build self-confidence by tackling challenges and developing new skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise course staff; ensure staff understand their responsibilities during staff training, including how to facilitate guests through high and low course elements, how to assist guests in processing their experience, and how to effect rescues from high course elements.

Serve as MOSI Operator Trainer to certify that all MOSI Ropes Course operators have successfully completed the operator training as outlined by Ropes Course, Inc.

Facilitate guests through the course and activities, enforcing safety regulations throughout their experience.

Monitor the proper use of equipment and ropes course elements, ensuring operator procedures are followed at all times.

Perform required safety checks of equipment and course, and perform or request repairs or replacements as necessary.

Prepare and execute course programs providing opportunities for guests to process and learn from their experience.

Assist in the promotion and development of group and team-building activities.

Follow all standard rules applicable to ropes courses as well as those specific to MOSI Sky Trail; continually evaluate course programs and make recommendations for equipment, supplies, and the program itself as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Desire and ability to work with children and adults outdoors.

Excellent customer service skills

Ability to follow directions and also work independently

Cognitive and communication abilities to plan and conduct group and individual activities to achieve ropes course program goals.

Ability to observe guest behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Training and experience with ropes/challenge course programs for two years preferred.

Certification or documented training or experience from a recognized organization or certifying body for ropes/challenge courses a plus.

Prior experience in a management or supervisory capacity in a similar program preferred.

Experience working with children.

Current CPR and first aid certifications preferred.

SPECIAL WORK REQUIREMENTS:

MOSI is open 365 days a year.  Weekend availability required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequent bending, squatting and/or stooping.

Ability to sit for 2-4 hour periods at a time.

Possess physical ability to move about the course, as well as strength and endurance required, to maintain constant supervision of guests, and to climb course elements up to 50 feet tall at least 12 times per day. 

Must be comfortable working at high elevations.

Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to guest activities while on the course.

Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid and CPR, to assist guests in emergency situations (evacuation, illness or injury, inclement weather).

Frequent standing, kneeling, bending, walking, balancing and climbing.

Physical ability to tolerate working outdoors in all seasons. 

 

 

EXHIBITS TECHNICIAN

This position is primarily responsible for the maintenance and repair of all exhibits, permanent, traveling, and visiting.                                                             

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Troubleshoots, repairs, and adjusts electromechanical, pneumatic, audiovisual and electronic exhibits.

Performs routine preventative maintenance on exhibits, mechanical, electrical, cabinetry repair, including cleaning, lubricating, painting, etc.

Assists with facility enhancements as related to exhibits.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Competency in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and painting.

Familiarity with multimedia in exhibits including software and hardware.

Familiarity in theatrical lighting a plus.

Proven ability to work independently, multi-task effectively, determine priorities and meet deadlines.

Familiarity with Science Center exhibits helpful.

Knowledge in masonry, welding, electronics, and carpentry.

Ability to work individually and with a team.

Mechanical aptitude and detail oriented.

Problem solving and creative thinking.

Familiarity in OS and Windows operating systems a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Significant training/experience in most of the following trades:  electrical, machinery, plumbing, painting, welding, and others.

Two years’ experience in exhibits repair preferred

TOURISM DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

Marketing Department

Full-Time Position with Benefits

The Tourism Development Specialist's goal is to promote MOSI as a premier travel destination in order to increase out-of-market and travel related revenues and assist the Director of Marketing and Communication with the dissemination of MOSI information. The Tourism Development Specialist will be responsible for developing and presenting tourism-related material to provide informational guidance for all tourism constituents. This position requires occasional weekend and after hours work. This position reports directly to the Director of Marketing & Communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Developing strategies and partnerships to drive out-of-market visitor traffic, specifically targeting the travel and hospitality industry.

Develop and implement a tourism marketing plan for the Bay area working closely with hotels/motels, restaurants, wineries, county attractions, etc.

Promote and expand overall MOSI awareness as a premier destination with city tourism publications and organizations.

Develop and maintain relationships with all local tourism service providers in the Tampa Bay area including but not limited to CityPass, hoteliers, restaurateurs, AAA, ticket vendors and attractions.

Creation and management of voucher program and ticket selling programs.

Work closely with the group sales department to encourage visitor group program bookings where applicable, which include maintaining relationships with group and hotel contacts.

Complete and maintain individual hotel profiles, including monthly visitors and sales results, collateral distribution, hotel contact and projections.

Identify opportunities to create hotel/motel packaging.

Arrange and conduct FAM (familiarization) and all other type tours with visiting groups, organizations, and out-of-state media.

Manage Trio relationship and ensure exceptional representation of MOSI's brand.

Manage the distribution of all tourism related publications and collateral.

Develop tourism content for MOSI website and publications.

Monitor city tourism statistics, projects and trends.

Track, analyze and measure return on investment of overall visitor sales.

Organize various media information and work with agency to make affordable and effective media buys to promote tourism.

Plan new research-based advertising strategies for current and subsequent years that will increase leisure travel market share.

Develop relationships with national, international and regional tourism based publications and writers, tours operators and travel agents.

Attend meetings, seminars, conventions, and workshops to further knowledge, stay informed of the changes in the tourism industry, and exchange information.

Work with the marketing team in developing Marketing and PR Plans for upcoming events, exhibitions and other museum programs.

Assist the Director of Marketing and Communication with marketing and event budgets, as it relates to tourism, and ensure that all marketing, promotions and events are efficient and profitable as demonstrated by the completion of event cost analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Hospitality, Tourism, or related field is a plus.

Minimum 2 years of Marketing experience within the Tourism industry required.

In depth knowledge of tourism and hotel industry within the Tampa Bay area

Strong database of hotel and tourism contacts preferred.

Strong written communication skills are required, with an emphasis on grammar/spelling excellence.

Strong communication skills in the capacity of liaison and as a presenter.

Strong analytical and organizational skills.  Attention to detail a must.

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Ability to develop and foster industry relationships is a must.

Availability Required Sunday through Saturday (10:00am-4:00pm)                             

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Performs standard morning readiness tasks on flight simulator

Greets guests and provides simulator and/or campus information as needed

Sells tickets and handles cash transactions

Operates flight simulator to enhance the MOSI guest experience

Ensures all simulator safety protocols are followed as instructed

Cleans flight simulator and surrounding areas as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

Retail sales and/or customer service experience required

Ability to engage guests on a daily basis

Previous experience operating a simulator preferred

Ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, personable & assertive

Must enjoy working with large groups of children


CUSTODIAN

Campus Experience Team

Part-time Position

Weekday & Weekend availability required

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Sweeps and mops floors

Dusts, polishes furniture

Cleans restrooms and replaces supplies

Disposes of wastepaper and trash

Washes windows

Cleans exhibits

Moves furniture and equipment, delivers supplies, and runs errands

Keeps outside premises and grounds in an orderly condition free of litter

REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to read and follow instructions and handle multiple tasks routinely.

Frequent walking, bending, stooping, squatting, and crouching. 

Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs.

Knowledge of use of chemicals/cleaning agents preferred.


CAMP-IN COORDINATOR

Learning Experience Team

Part-time Position

This part-time position is responsible for coordination and logistics of MOSI overnight camp-ins.  Camp-in Coordinator will spend the night at MOSI with camp-in participants and therefore shifts will be 10 -18 hours long, including time for sleep. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as the key point of contact for camp-in participants by answering questions, resolving issues, and acting responsibly during emergency situations.

Be responsible for the safety and well-being of participants.

Set the tone and excitement level to optimize a positive experience for all participants. 

Greet participants, take attendance, and positively engage participants.

Be knowledgeable about MOSI policies, procedures, exhibit spaces, and classroom spaces.  

Be knowledgeable about MOSI safety and emergency procedures. 

Assist and/or deliver hands-on, inquiry based programs that incorporate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art+Design, and Math) content, critical thinking, problem solving, and scientific methodology.

Other duties as needed and assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Interest or background in science preferred.

Experience serving diverse audiences of children preferred.

Resourceful, responsible, flexible, and positive attitude. 

Ability to work overnight hours, especially on weekends.

OUTREACH INSTRUCTOR

Learning Experience Team

Part-time Position

This position is responsible for program delivery with STEAM content through a hands-on approach.  Programs will primarily be delivered off-site in schools, outdoor venues, or the MOSI in Motion Mobile Lab. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Deliver hands-on, inquiry based programs that incorporate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art+Design, and Math) content, critical thinking, problem solving, and scientific methodology.

Set the tone and excitement level to optimize a positive experience for all participants.

Greet program participants, teachers and students, take attendance, and be responsible for students.

Present planned activities pertaining to assigned classes.

Develop new programs and activities as assigned.

Perform administrative duties such as filing, copying, recording/analyzing data, and organizing. 

Purchase supplies and take inventory as assigned. 

Drive outreach school bus to program locations.

Other duties as needed and assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Science knowledge or background required.

Experience serving diverse audiences of children preferred.

Ability to work with flexible schedules and duties.

Ability to operate large vehicles including vans and buses, for extended periods of time.

Positive attitude and willingness to learn new content and programs.

Team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt to changing situations. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

Must be 21 years of age or older due to driving responsibilities.

Certified Florida Teaching Credential a plus but not required.

Valid Florida driver’s license with safe driving record required.

Two years’ experience instructing and/or working with children required.

Must be approved to work with children (Clear Level II Background Screening through Department of Children & Families required).

Must be comfortable with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequent bending, squatting and/or stooping.

Able to lift, push and/or carry up 25 pounds.

Able to verbally project to large groups.

Able to stand for long periods of time.

SPECIAL WORK REQUIREMENTS:

MOSI is open 365 days a year.  Employee may be required to work some holidays, evenings, and/or weekends.

TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTOR

Learning Experience Team – Education

Part-time position

Inspire kids and teens to innovators through technology and engineering.

Apply your technical skills and ability to create a fun and exciting learning environment where children and teens can become active creators of technology-based projects. Designing Web pages, animating in 3D, programming computer games, or building robots are just a few of the activities led by our technology instructors.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Prepare and implement innovative, project-oriented, hands-on classes and camps.

Set the tone and excitement level to optimize a positive summer camp experience for all participants.

Greet parents and students, take attendance, and be responsible for students.

Present planned activities pertaining to assigned classes in electronic form.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Proficient in creating animation, robotics, video production, music production or computer projects like computer games.

Certified Florida Teaching Credential a plus but not required.

Two years previous experience instructing and/or working with children required. 

Skilled in using multimedia and/or programming applications. 

Dependable and flexible with work schedule and duties. 

Must be approved to work with children (Clear Level II Background Screening through Department of Children & Families required).


BUS DRIVER

Education Department

Part-Time Position

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Responsible for driving a bus and monitoring of Guests/Program Participants on board. 

Inspects bus thoroughly before starting the run to detect any mechanical or other malfunction, which would prevent the safe delivery of Guests and/or Program Participants.  

Follows exact schedule making stops and pick up of Guests/Program Participants at locations based on schedule provided.  

Observes all state, city and local laws and regulations.  

Supervise the seating of Guests/Program Participants to equalize weight distribution. 

Assists chaperones in resolving disciplinary problems and prepares proper reports for the Vice President of Education on more difficult problems. 

Instructs Guests/Program Participants on the proper methods to board and depart from the bus and sees that these instructions are carefully observed. 

Possesses thorough knowledge of bus operation; safety and safety equipment, and first aid procedures. 

Ability to communicate in a positive manner with Guests/Program Participants.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must be 21 years of age or older 

High School Diploma or GED preferred; completion of the tenth school grade required 

Two years of successful bus driving experience required 

Possession of a valid Florida Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger Endorsement required (S) 

Applicants should be familiar with the main roadways in the county. 

Applicants who have been found guilty of a DUI or who have tested positive for a controlled substance will be disqualified 

Must be approved to work with children (Clear Level II Background Screening through Department of Children & Families required) 

Qualified candidates must be able to meet and complete OTETA (Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act) and DOT (Department of Transportation) testing
