SUMMER TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Education Department

Temporary, Full-Time Hourly Position

This position is responsible for providing technical support for summer science and technology programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Installs, maintains, and repairs various technology assets including desktop/laptop computers, servers, printers, and other miscellaneous computer peripherals.

Manages physical and virtual aspects of computer networks for educational programs.

Installs a wide variety of software including but not limited to operating systems, programming languages, multimedia production, etc. Provides setup and support of audio/visual equipment for educational programs.

Maintains inventory of computer hardware, software, and other technical equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Two year degree preferred in a technology related field.

Two years experience in implementation, operation, and maintenance in Microsoft, OSX and Linux environments preferred.

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and an ability to multi task effectively.

Creativity, high energy, an ability to be flexible, proactive and resourceful is highly valued.

Familiar with current technologies and software, particularly in open source and freeware solutions.

Compensation - $10.00 to $12.00 / hour based on experience

CUSTODIAN

Facilities Department

Part-time Position

Weekday & Weekend availability required

Responsibilities:

Sweeps and mops floors

Dusts, polishes furniture

Cleans restrooms and replaces supplies

Disposes of wastepaper and trash

Washes windows

Cleans exhibits

Moves furniture and equipment, delivers supplies, and runs errands

Keeps outside premises and grounds in an orderly condition free of litter

Requirements:

Ability to read and follow instructions and handle multiple tasks routinely.

Frequent walking, bending, stooping, squatting, and crouching.

Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs.

Knowledge of use of chemicals/cleaning agents preferred.

BUS DRIVER

Education Department

Part-Time Position

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Responsible for driving a bus and monitoring of Guests/Program Participants on board.

Inspects bus thoroughly before starting the run to detect any mechanical or other malfunction, which would prevent the safe delivery of Guests and/or Program Participants.

Follows exact schedule making stops and pick up of Guests/Program Participants at locations based on schedule provided.

Observes all state, city and local laws and regulations.

Supervise the seating of Guests/Program Participants to equalize weight distribution.

Assists chaperones in resolving disciplinary problems and prepares proper reports for the Vice President of Education on more difficult problems.

Instructs Guests/Program Participants on the proper methods to board and depart from the bus and sees that these instructions are carefully observed.

Possesses thorough knowledge of bus operation; safety and safety equipment, and first aid procedures.

Ability to communicate in a positive manner with Guests/Program Participants.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must be 21 years of age or older

High School Diploma or GED preferred; completion of the tenth school grade required

Two years of successful bus driving experience required

Possession of a valid Florida Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger Endorsement required (S)

Applicants should be familiar with the main roadways in the county.

Applicants who have been found guilty of a DUI or who have tested positive for a controlled substance will be disqualified

Must be approved to work with children (Clear Level II Background Screening through Department of Children & Families required)

Qualified candidates must be able to meet and complete OTETA (Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act) and DOT (Department of Transportation) testing

MEMBERSHIP SALES ASSOCIATE

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Greet guests and provide information on MOSI ticketing options and benefits of membership;

Exceed or meet sales goals while demonstrating a solid customer focus;

Develop a strong product knowledge as well as customer knowledge;

Must have passion to turn prospects into members with persistent determination;

Provide inputs, creative solutions, and ideas to the membership team;

Maintain accurate customer database for reporting, mailings, and marketing memberships;

Perform daily data-entry and cash handling tasks;

Assist Membership Supervisor with member relations issues and supports member promotions and events;

Assist Membership Supervisor with member card fulfillment tasks;

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or GED preferred;

Prior sales experience preferred;

Previous customer service experience required;

Proficient level of computer skills of MSWord, Excel, and Vista systems preferred;

RESERVATIONIST

Week-Ends & Occasional Holiday Availability Required

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Receive telephone calls for group and individual reservations and enter into ticketing system

Respond to telephone and walk-in inquiries regarding MOSI programs, general information and the facility

Receive telephone calls to purchase MOSI memberships and enter membership information into ticketing system

QUALIFICATIONS:

Excellent telephone and oral communications skills with customer service attitude

Attention to detail

Computer literacy

Able to follow complex directions

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit for 4-6 hour shifts

Excellent vision for computer and detail work

Computer keyboard typing 4-6 hours a day

IDEA ZONE MANAGER

Education Department

Full-time position with Benefits

This position is responsible for the day to day operation of Idea Zone, a space dedicated to participatory processes of visitors’ making, tinkering and exploring STEM content through hands-on approaches.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate the day-to-day operation of Idea Zone to include scheduling, staffing, training, and monitoring of quality content and activities of the multi-experiential learning lab.

Work collaboratively with MOSI staff and outside makers to create and deliver programming in Idea Zone for families, adults, youth, and educators.

Prepare, coordinate and facilitate hands-on programs on varied content and research and report ways in which making activities align and/or relate to STEM topics.

Coordinate all aspects of Idea Zone including staffing, communication with relevant MOSI staff, the ordering of materials, maintenance of equipment, and monitor the proper use of equipment and simulation elements, ensuring proper operator procedures are followed at all times.

Work with the Vice President of Education, Directors of Education and the Marketing Department to build public awareness.

Research materials, tools and equipment – including hardware and software to be used for Idea Zone development, workshops and activities.

Facilitate guests (youth, families, adults and school groups) through the multi-experiential learning lab programs, simulations and activities.

Set the tone and excitement level to optimize a positive lab experience for all participants.

Qualifications Include:

Bachelor’s Degree in science, math, technology, engineering, or other MOSI-mission related field.

Previous experience in science center or similar informal education institution delivering programs.

Prior experience in a supervisory position and teaching experience preferred.

Passion and knowledge about the use of technologies to support creative, engaged learning.

An experienced practitioner and mentor in the making processes.

Ability to get ideas accepted and to guide a group or individual to accomplish the task.

Demonstrable experience in working with teams with the ability to harness team creativity and translate into effective programming.

An effective collaborator, coordinator, team builder, and mentor and who is skilled at leveraging the talents of others and solving problems.

Strong communications skills with an engaging style and the ability to express ideas clearly both in written and oral communications to guests of all ages.

Comfortable with a hands on approach, particularly an ability to improvise with audiences of varied ages, the use of hand tools, electronics, computer software, hardware and various other technologies.

Interest and/or abilities in sewing, knitting/crocheting, physical computing, open source hardware and software, video and audio production, fabrication, 3-D CAD programs, architecture, and engineering a plus.

Experience serving diverse audiences of children.

Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple project

TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTOR

Summer Science Camp, Education Department

Inspire kids and teens to innovators through technology and engineering!

Apply your technical skills and ability to create a fun and exciting learning environment where children and teens can become active creators of technology-based projects. Designing Web pages, animating in 3D, programming computer games, or building robots are just a few of the activities led by our technology instructors.

Responsibilities:

Prepare and implement innovative, project-oriented, hands-on classes and camps.

ENGINEERING / FABRICATION INSTRUCTOR

Apply your building and engineering skills and ability to create rewarding challenges that motivate and inspire students. Design 3D models, piece together robots, use fabrication technologies such as 3D printing and laser cutting to make prototypes. Build and tinker you way through an exciting and fun week of camp.

Responsibilities:

TEACHER ASSISTANTS

Feel the spirit of summer at MOSI! Get out, get going and have fun in the sun while working at MOSI’s Summer Science Camp!

Responsibilities:

Supervise extended care in the morning, afternoon and at lunchtime and lead games and activities.

Assist with overall camp operations and instructors with hands-on science and technology activities.

Qualifications:

Monday through Friday weekday availability throughout summer

Mature, dependable and flexible with duties and schedule

Experience in working with children; teaching experience required

Science and technology background or interest

First Aid, CPR and Lifeguard training preferred

Must be approved to work with children (Clear Level II Background Screening through Department of Children & Families required)
